Direct Packaging Costs
Direct packaging costs cover every physical component supplied with the finished plush product. Depending on the project, these may include a plain OPP bag, printed polybag, belly band, header card, backing card, hang tag, woven label, care label, barcode sticker, warning label, collector card, instruction sheet, inner tray, folding carton, window box, gift box, display carton, and export carton. Each component has a specification that affects its price. A bag is influenced by dimensions, film thickness, clarity, sealing method, printing, ventilation holes, and warning requirements. A paper package is influenced by board grade, print coverage, coating, window film, folding structure, and internal support.
Packaging should be quoted as a defined bill of materials rather than as one vague line called “packing.” Two suppliers may both list a color box, yet one quotation may refer to a thin folding carton while another includes stronger board, a transparent window, a paper insert, retail labels, and barcode application. Those packages do not offer the same protection, presentation, or packing workload. A useful cost review therefore identifies the package format, finished dimensions, material grade, print specification, included labels, assembly method, and master-carton assumption before unit prices are compared.

The fixed cost is simply spread across more products.
Project teams should confirm whether setup charges are listed separately, included in the unit price, or amortized across the initial order. They should also ask which elements can be reused on an unchanged reorder. A cutting die may remain usable for the same structure, while a revised box size, updated artwork, new barcode, or different SKU can require another proof or production setup. Late changes are particularly expensive because printed packaging becomes obsolete quickly. Packaging development should move alongside plush sampling, not begin after the product has entered mass production.
Packing Labor and Quality Checks
Packing labor depends on the number and difficulty of actions required for every product. Placing a simple plush inside a plain bag is relatively quick. Folding a box, assembling an insert, positioning the character, attaching a hang tag, applying an FNSKU label, adding a collector card, sealing the package, checking the barcode, and loading the correct display carton take longer and require tighter process control. Small differences become meaningful at scale.
