Material Comes Before the Printer

A printing process that performs well on white printable PVC may behave differently on matte PU, rough Oxford or marine vinyl. Surface chemistry affects adhesion; texture affects detail; coating affects ink response; stiffness affects folding. Before a new substrate enters production, the printing route is checked against the material rather than selected from artwork alone.

Artwork Complexity Changes the Process

A one-color dealer logo and a photographic landscape have different production needs. Screen printing can be commercially efficient for repeated solid-color logos, while latex, UV or sublimation is more appropriate when the image contains gradients, many colors or photographic detail.

Latex Printing Handles Full-Color Outdoor Tire Cover Graphics

Latex is a core Szoneier route for photographic and full-color tire cover graphics on compatible flexible materials. It is particularly useful when the product requires gradients, detailed illustration, multiple artwork versions or premium outdoor graphics without committing the program to a repeated screen-print setup.

64-Inch Roll-to-Roll Working Width

Szoneier’s standard latex roll-to-roll platform supports media up to approximately 64 inches / 1.63 m wide for compatible applications. That working width is useful for large front panels, oversize graphics and efficient nesting of circular tire-cover artwork before cutting. The width is a media capability, not a promise that every material or product uses the full platform. Material behavior, print direction, registration and cutting layout still determine the practical production arrangement.

White Ink for Dark Substrates

A new material is not approved for UV simply because the printer can physically feed it. Adhesion testing comes first because surface chemistry can cause peeling, scratching or fold cracking even when the initial visual print looks good.

The print route can place white ink beneath the color image, create a spot-white logo, or combine white and color layers according to the production file. Szoneier’s main UV platform supports a maximum print width of approximately 1,610 mm / 63.4 inches. This allows large graphics to be produced before contour cutting where the material and product route are compatible.

The Trade-Off: Ink-Layer Feel

UV ink cures as a surface layer and can feel more noticeable than a flexible latex graphic. On a tire cover, that matters because the panel may be folded, curved or stretched over the spare tire. Premium UV programs should therefore check:

White Ink Makes Full Color Possible on Dark Tire Cover Materials

A black tire cover cannot reproduce bright full-color artwork by applying CMYK directly and expecting the same result as a white substrate. Dark material changes the optical base under the graphic. Szoneier uses white-ink strategies when a design needs visible color, white lettering or controlled contrast on a dark surface.

Without an Underbase

On black PVC or dark vinyl, transparent or semi-transparent color layers lose saturation because the dark substrate remains visible through the ink. Light colors become dull, and brand colors can shift dramatically.

With a White Underbase

A controlled white layer provides an opaque base beneath the color image. The production file can use: White Underbase → CMYK Graphic for full-color designs, or: Spot White for lettering, linework or minimalist branding.

White Ink Changes Production Speed

White ink is a useful capability, but it does not come free. White-layer printing can be slower than a normal CMYK pass and can change curing, layering and inspection requirements. That difference matters when a customer compares one prototype with a 5,000-piece repeated graphic program.

Material Surface Still Matters

White ink cannot compensate for a substrate that has poor adhesion. Matte PU, textured vinyl and coated Oxford can require different testing, pretreatment or an alternate branding process.

Dye sublimation is Szoneier’s main textile-printing route for compatible polyester tire cover constructions. It is especially useful when the product requires full-area color, illustration or photographic artwork on a polyester-based substrate.

Material Has to Be Sublimation-Compatible

The process relies on a polyester-compatible material system. A standard black 600D Oxford should not be assumed to accept the same route as white sublimation-ready polyester Oxford. For full-color Oxford-style products, the engineering team can select a white printable or sublimation-compatible polyester construction rather than trying to force photographic output onto a rough, dark, untreated surface.

Graphic and Fabric Become a Textile System

Sublimation can provide a softer graphic feel because the color is integrated into the compatible textile system rather than forming a thick surface film. That is valuable for flexible products that need to fold and sew cleanly.

Waterproofing Is a Separate Question

A polyester graphic substrate is not automatically waterproof. If the finished tire cover requires a stronger water barrier, the product can use an appropriate PU coating, laminate or other approved backing construction. Screen printing is not the most flexible route for photographs or constantly changing artwork, but it becomes commercially strong when a brand needs the same simple logo repeated across hundreds or thousands of tire covers. Resolution Is Judged at Finished Size

For raster artwork at the actual printed production size:
  • 150 DPI is a practical minimum reference
  • 200-300 DPI is preferred for detailed photography and premium graphics
The important phrase is at finished size. A small 300-DPI photograph can fall far below that effective resolution when enlarged to fill a large circular tire-cover panel.

Vector and Raster Serve Different Purposes

Vector files are preferred for logos, text and line graphics that may need to scale without losing edge quality. High-quality raster files can work well for photographs and detailed images when the source resolution is sufficient.

The Camera Changes the Artwork File

Camera-compatible tire covers need an artwork safe zone around the opening and reinforcement. A centrally placed logo may need to move or resize so the functional opening does not cut through the brand mark.

Production File Control Prevents Version Errors

Once approved, the released production artwork becomes the controlled print version. A previous mockup, old logo or obsolete camera-hole layout should not return to production because it remained in an email thread.

Circular Registration Keeps the Graphic Centered After Cutting

Tire-cover graphics are usually printed on a panel that will later become a circle. That makes printing and cutting one connected accuracy problem. A perfectly printed image can still look wrong if the circular panel is cut off-center.

Latex, UV and dye sublimation are the main full-color routes. Printable PVC commonly uses latex or UV, while polyester is well suited to sublimation. The final choice depends on material, artwork, quantity, dark/light substrate, fold behavior and outdoor requirement.
Screen printing becomes attractive for repeated simple logos, particularly one- or two-color programs at several hundred pieces or more. Digital printing is more flexible for photographs, gradients, many colors and multiple artwork versions.
Yes. Photographs, gradients and detailed illustrations can be produced through suitable latex, UV or sublimation routes. Source image quality is still important; raster resolution should be evaluated at the finished print size.
Yes, on suitable white-ink printing platforms and compatible materials. Black PVC, dark vinyl and selected dark PU can use a white underbase or spot-white layer. The material still needs adhesion validation.

Depending on the program, print validation can include adhesion, scratch, fold and accelerated UV checks. Outdoor life cannot be stated accurately from the printing-process name alone because substrate, ink, climate and exposure all matter.
Yes. Digital printing is particularly suitable for multiple artwork versions. The production system still has to keep artwork version, printed panel, SKU and packaging identity connected so different graphics do not become mixed.
